Redefining Leadership and Impact

Across communities, women are reshaping leadership and influence in modern society. They are educators, professionals, innovators, and leaders whose contributions drive meaningful change through knowledge, resilience, and compassion.

In conjunction with International Womenโ€™s Day 2026, themed โ€œGive to Gainโ€, Sunway Multicare Pharmacy recognises female pharmacists who play a vital role at the heart of community healthcare. Their journeys reflect both professional growth and the real impact they create daily.

The Role of Female Retail Pharmacists

Female pharmacists go beyond dispensing medications. They deliver patient-centred care through clear communication, empathy, and trust-building.

They create safe, non-judgmental spaces where patients feel heard, often supporting both physical and emotional wellbeing. Their presence is especially important when addressing sensitive topics such as reproductive health, menopause, and chronic conditions, where patients may feel more comfortable opening up.

By combining clinical expertise with genuine understanding, they strengthen trust and position community pharmacies as accessible healthcare touchpoints

Ms. Leong Szu Jean, Assistant Manager โ€“ Area, shared that her role as a retail pharmacist goes far beyond dispensing medication. She creates a safe, non-judgmental space where patients feel heard and supported. At times, what they need most is someone to listen, and offering reassurance and emotional support can be just as important as treatment.

Many female patients come with concerns that are not always easy to express, especially on sensitive topics like reproductive health, menopause, family planning, or chronic conditions. In these moments, having a female pharmacist helps put them at ease. As Ms. Szu Jean shared, many feel more comfortable opening up to her, and beyond physical care, she often supports them through emotional challenges as well.

Ms. Athirah Binti Ahmad Latif, Manager - Branch cum Pharmacist, shared that many female customers feel more at ease speaking to a female pharmacist. Beyond dispensing medications, she focuses on listening, educating, and empowering patients with clear, practical health information.

This blend of clinical expertise and genuine empathy is what sets female pharmacists apart, making community pharmacies one of the most trusted and accessible healthcare touchpoints.

Creating Comfort and Confidence in the Community

Women empowerment is built on the foundational pillars of knowledge and trust. Female pharmacists go beyond dispensing adviceโ€”they take the time to educate and counsel women, helping them understand their health, make confident decisions, and take preventive steps to protect their wellbeing in the years ahead.

Ms. Athirah shared one of her most meaningful experiences in supporting postmenopausal women with their bone health. Many were unaware of how ageing and hormonal changes could affect them.

โ€œThrough simple counselling, I shared about lifestyle habits, nutrition, and the importance of calcium and vitamin D. Seeing them become more aware and motivated to take better care of their health made me feel proud as a pharmacist.โ€

Moments like these show that pharmacists do more than manage prescriptions. Through everyday conversations, they empower women with knowledge, clarity, and the confidence to take charge of their health.

When Compassion Heals Beyond Medicineย

Healthcare is not only about physical symptoms. Often, patients carry emotional burdens that are not easily seen.

Ms. Leong Szu Jean recalled a mother struggling with guilt over her childโ€™s chronic skin condition.

โ€œShe felt responsible and blamed herself. I reassured her that these conditions are complex and not something a parent should blame themselves for. Watching her slowly let go of that guilt reminded me how powerful compassion can be.โ€

Sometimes, what patients need most is understanding. Female pharmacists often step in as listeners, supporters, and advocates, creating a safe space where women feel reassured and cared for without judgement.

Give To Gain

This yearโ€™s theme reflects both professional growth and personal fulfilment.

Ms. Szu Jean shared,
โ€œIโ€™ve learned patience, compassion, and the importance of listening without judgement. It reminds me that pharmacy is not just about medication, but about caring for people as a whole.โ€

Ms. Athirah added,
โ€œSeeing how education can positively influence a womanโ€™s long-term health gives me a deep sense of purpose. It motivates me to keep improving so I can better serve the community.โ€

Through knowledge, they build trust. Through reassurance, they uplift others. And through compassion, they find purpose in what they do every day.ย

A Workplace Where Women Lead

At Sunway Multicare Pharmacy, female pharmacists are supported to grow both professionally and personally. With clear career pathways, continuous learning, and leadership opportunities, they are empowered to build confidence and expand their roles.

Ms. Szu Jean shared that the supportive environment has allowed her to grow beyond clinical care into leadership and people management.

Ms. Athirah also reflected on the flexibility she received during her postgraduate studies, which helped her balance work and learning while continuing to grow in her career.

Together, their experiences show that when women are supported, they not only thrive in their careers but also make a lasting impact in the communities they serve.
